Healthcare: Romania, China sign first health cooperation agreement
Romanian Health Minister Nicolae Banicioiu and Chinese Health Vice Minister Ma Xiaowei signed on Saturday, June 28, at the Academy of the 'Prof. Dr. Matei Bals' National Institute for Infectious Diseases, the first agreement on health and medical sciences cooperation between the Romanian Ministry of Health and China's National Health and Family Planning Commission.
According to the document, the parties will strengthen and develop mutual cooperation on primary care, the prevention and control of communicable diseases, traditional medicine, medical sciences and medical education, maternal and child health. During the meeting, Minister Banicioiu presented his Chinese counterpart one of the most important projects envisaged by the Minister this year, specifically the development of the network of radiotherapy centres.
''I know that the People's Republic of China is one of the leading producers of radiotherapy equipment. At the end of this year, the Romanian Ministry of Health will start with WB funding the most important project for the development of the country's network of radiotherapy centres and I invite you to invest in this area,'' said Minister Nicolae Banicioiu, cited in a release.
The Romanian Minister of Health and his Chinese counterpart also discussed the initiation of an expert exchange program between the two countries.
A Chinese delegation was on a working visit to Bucharest over June 26 - 28, visiting the ''Floreasca' Emergency Hospital and also meeting with head of the Chamber of Deputies' Health Committee, Rodica Nassar.
