The World Day for fight against tuberculosis is celebrated annualy on 24 March, to draw the attention of the public with regards to the global epidemics of tuberculosis (TBC) and the efforts to eliminate this disease.
The date was chosen as it shows the moment when in 1882 doctor Robert Koch informed officially the international scientific community that he discovered the TBC bacillus, fact which contributed to the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. At the moment of Koch’s announcement, TBC was spread around Europe and America, leading to the death of one out of 7 people.
