CFR Calatori will carry passengers daily to Istanbul and Sofia, and once a week to Thessaloniki, starting 2 June 2017

The Romanian National Railway Company - CFR Calatori will carry passengers daily to Istanbul and Sofia, and once a week to Thessaloniki, starting 2 June 2017, Director General of the CFR Iosif Szentes announced after a specialist debate organized at the Senate. 

The CFR Calatori participates in constructing the Bosfor Express train, the composition of which will also be ensured by Bulgarians and Turks, with a sleeping car for Istanbul, a regular passenger car for the Sofia destination, with a couchette and another sleeping car attached weekly for Thessaloniki. 

Moreover, the company intends to also introduce in the structure of this train wagons for the transport of vehicles to Thessaloniki. 

"This year the Greece version stays, what we have started last year, and moreover, in relation to Turkey we will have a sleeping car ensured by the CFR Calatori and other cars ensured by the administrations which are participating in the construction of this train towards Turkey - Bulgarians and Turks will contribute to the train's construction - starting 2 June. In composing this train towards Thessaloniki we intend to introduce wagons for transporting vehicles. In this regard, we even foreseen in the investment plan amounts for small repairs that must be done and periodical repairs to the two cars that are currently in our storage area and which can run with speeds of up to 200 km/h in the composition of the passenger train. This train will carry passengers daily to Istanbul and Sofia and the Thessaloniki group will be attached to the Istanbul train once a week," Szentes stated. 

In respect to the number of vehicles that can be transported to Thessaloniki, the CFR Calatori head mentioned that it depends on their model. 

According to him establishing the prices is still in a work in progress. 

"The prices are already underway, but I cannot say anything until we won't have the prices thought depending on the expenses we'll have. [...] The meeting of the Forum Train Europe takes place next week in Ljubljana, where schedules and border crossing will be discussed," Iosif Szentes added. 

The tickets for these destinations have been put up for sale.
