Cars: APIA: Average age of car park in Romania was 15.4 years in 2018
The average age of the car park in Romania, in 2018, was 15.4 years, over the EU age of 11 years, a specialized analysis published by APIA shows.
According to the source, recent data referring to the evolution of the car park in Romania, published by the authorities, shows the increase of the number of old and very old cars which continue to supply the park, especially in the last two years, since the environment tax was eliminated.
Cars whose pollution age is very high- over 15 years, and are qualified for the “Junk program”, had a share of 47% at the end of 2018.
In this context, there is an increase of the share of cars with Diesel engines in the car park in Romania, which almost doubled in 2018, from 24.8% to 44.6%.
The spreading of the car park in Romania is relatively balanced (10%-13%) except for Bucharest-Ilfov area where we find a higher number of vehicles less than 10 years old.
“Another relevant index for the dimension of the national car park and its growth potential is the monitoring degree and from this point of view Romania ranks last in EU with 328 units per 1,000 people. The EU average in 2016 was 587 cars/1,000 people,” APIA mentions.
DRPCIV statistics show that in 2018 the national car park in Romania had 8.20 million units, on the rise by 7.30% against the previous year, when there were over 7.635 million units. Of this total, 1,381,620 were registered in Bucharest, an increase of 4.64% against 2017. At national level, 2.536 million units were older than 11-15 years, 2.012 million units were between 16 and 20 years old and 1.892 millions were over 20 years old. According to DRPCIV, at the end of 2018 there were 3.942 million cars running on gasoline and 3.791 million cars running on Diesel oil.
