Buzau Land promoted as European Destination of Excellence by EC

The European Commission has recently made a video presentation for the Buzau Land (north-east of Bucharest, southern Moldova), promoting the region as an EDEN (European Destinations of Excellence) destination, with the theme Rural Tourism.

'In 2011, the Buzau County Council in partnership with the Buzau branch of ANTREC (the National Association of Rural, Ecological and Cultural Tourism - editor's note) submitted the documentation to participate in the EDEN competition, Buzau Land scored maximum points and was designated the winner in the Rural Tourism category, at the same time benefiting from the advantages of being among the European Destinations of Excellence and enjoying international recognition,' Chairwoman of ANTREC Buzau branch Cristina Partal told Agerpres on last Wednesday.

According to the above-quoted source, the territory promoted as an EDEN destination was zoned together with the experts of the Geology Faculty and the Geomedia Center from the University of Bucharest. The region includes all the important tourist attractions of the Buzau county, the material and non-material heritage, as well as localities where rural tourism units, mainly boarding houses, are everywhere.

'The video presentation made by the European Commission promotes the Muddy Volcanoes, the Ciolanu Monastery, the Amber Museum in Colti, the world's longest salt cave located in Meledic, as well as traditional dishes from the region,' the above-quoted source said.

The Buzau Land includes about 40 localities situated in the hilly and mountain area of the Buzau county.
