Balneary tourism to hold important place in future National Tourism Strategy

Balneary tourism will hold an important place in the National Tourism Strategy to be completed this year, said Adrian Stoica, the deputy general secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, recently.

“Our colleagues have been involved in approaching these topics with World Bank experts. We consider the expertise of the latter will set up a coherent frame and clearly defined steps to be followed,” said Adrian Stoica at the opening of the 14th edition of the Balneary Tourism Exchange and Forum held in Covasna.

He added that measures announced by the Ministry of Tourism - 5% VAT for tourist activities, zero royalties for geothermal and mineral water, as well as the possibility to access the investment fund by local authorities will contribute to the rebirth of balneary resorts in Romania.

According to data published by the National Statistics Institute, there were 851,040 tourists in 2016, of whom 46,085 foreigners, 945,257 in 2017, of whom 48,742 foreigners. Resorts most in demand are Baile Felix, Calimanesti, Sovata and Baile Herculane.
