Automobile market in Romania will grow by 15% in 2019
The local automobile market will grow this year by 15% compared to 2018, while the adoption degree of hybrid cars will continue to be high, when it exceeds the European average, said Edit Tarcolea, general manager at Toyota Romania.
According to data presented on Thursday by representatives of the exclusive importers of Toyota and Lexus cars, more than half of total sales of the Japanese constructors in Romania (57%), reported in 2018 were hybrid models.
The business figure recorded in Romania by the official representative of the Japanese company was 304 million euro, on the rise by 23% compared to the previous year, while estimates for 2019 are for an increase of the amount to 340 million euro.
Estimates show an increase of 15% for the Romanian automobile market in 2019 against 2018. Hybrid models are rising. The Toyota performance was due mostly to selling hybrid models, which represented 57% of the overall number of units sold in Romania in 2018. The company invests continuously in technology and the purpose is to offer electrification for the many not only for the rich. Toyota is a pioneer in the field of electrification, with huge expertise in the development, manufacture and improvement of new technologies, obtained during two decades of investments in research and development. The company has sold 13 million electrified cars in the world, since the launch of Prius model in 1996, in Paris. Until 2050, we want to reduce CO2 emissions of new vehicles by 90%, compared to 2010 and to contribute to a cleaner environment,” Tarcolea said.
According to the source, Toyota sold 5,745 cars in Romania , in 2018, 20% more than in 2017. Plans for 2019 in this segment show an increase of the number of units sold , to 7,000 Toyota cars and 250 Lexus cars. Reported to the hybrid car segment, Toyota Romania is a leader with a 69% share.
