AirFi launched by TAROM starting with August on board the aircraft

TAROM launches AirFi, an intranet service on board the aircraft, which will be available starting the second half of August on the routes Madrid, Barcelona and Dubai, the longest routes the company is operating at present, stated on Thursday the interim general manager TAROM Gabriel Stoe.

AirFi is the smallest portable system of entertainment on board the planes in the world which allow access of the passengers to a platform which offers a wide range of options: shop, chat with the other passengers, games, information about the travel destinations, newspapers, news – under the format of newsfeed, films and music. At the same time,the platform includes a survey form on TAROM services, so that each passenger informs the company about the needs and wishes, the latter trying to improve the services and answers ‘ as direct and correctly to the passengers as possible’.

With the approximate dimension of a shoebox with the weight of 1.2 kg, two AirFi devices can cover the capacity of a craft of 180 seats, while four devices can cover the needs of connectivity of 280 passengers.

Connectivity to the AirFi system is made directly from the browser of the mobile device, not necessary to install any app. At the same time, the interface is scalable to any resolution or dimension of the screen of the mobile device (phone, tablet or laptop).

The autonomy of the AirFi console lasts up to 14 hours. The console does not connect to the systems of the aircraft, but when is airborne it allows access to all passengers. The moment of landing, the device allows updating so that the passengers get the latest news.

Gabriel Stoe explained that the AirFi system will be stopped during the taking off procedure and will be started the moment the craft reaches cruising speed.

The National Company of Romanian Air Transport TAROM was set up in 1954 and operates under the authority of the ministry of transport. Starting with June 2010 is a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, starting 1993 member of the International Association of Air Transporters (IATA) and starting 2000 it is a member of the Association of European Air Companies (AEA).
