AgriMin Irimescu wants Romanian food on China's market
China's market is huge, and Romanian wants there the broadest possible range of its agri-food products, while Chinese know-how reaches Romania, Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu asserted in a Tuesday's meeting with a Chinese delegation led by Beijing Deputy Mayor Lin Keqing.The minister reminded the longtime collaboration between Romania and China, especially in agriculture and trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) mentioned in a release.
The slower growth of China's economy has been perceived on the milk and pork market, as the EU continued its embargo on Russia, Irimescu noted.
Lin Keqing pointed out that Romania and China have complementary needs, which provide a basis for collaboration in agriculture. The Chinese officials came up with several relevant propositions, included the promotion of a more diverse agricultural trade, the support to Chinese investors in Romania, especially in winegrowing, and the expansion of trade in milk, fruit, vegetables, etc. They also asked for the setup of permanent coordination mechanisms to exploit the potential of technical and scientific cooperation in agriculture.
According to the MADR, the deputy mayor of Beijing extended to the agriculture minister an invitation for Romania to participate in the 2019 International Horticultural Exhibition in Beijing, an opportunity to promote Romania's relevant technology, especially greenhouses.
The Chinese delegation included heads of the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, who signed a collaboration agreement with Romania's Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences 'Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisesti', represented by its president Gheorghe Sin.
China's ambassador to Romania Xu Feihong also attended the meeting at the Agriculture Ministry.
