Agriculture: Constanta, Braila and Teleorman counties, most important for sunflower crops in 2018
Sunflower yield in Romania was over 3.062 million tonnes last year, on the rise by 149,947 tonnes compared to the previous year. Counties with the highest share were Constanta (9.7%), Braila (8.2%) and Teleorman (7.5%), according to data centralized by the National Statistics Institute.
The average per hectare yield grew last year by 124 kg/ha, to 3,041 kg/ha.
The area planted with sunflower grew last year in Romania by 0.9% and yield by 5.1%.
According to INS, 90.8% of the total area planted with sunflower in EU was in 5 member states in 2018- Romania, Bulgaria, Spain, Hungary and France. Romania ranked first in EU for the area cultivated with sunflower (about a fourth of the total area planted with sunflower).
These five countries obtained 90.5% of the overall sunflower yield in EU and Romania ranked first among member states, followed by Bulgaria, Hungary, France and Spain.
