Agriculture: Cocereal expects Romania's wheat harvest to drop to 7.9 million tons in 2022

The soft wheat yield in EU and Great Britain will drop next year, while in the Balkan area it will return to an average level, after the record wheat yields of 2021, Cocereal announced .

In its first estimate about the 2022 yield, Romania's soft wheat crop will drop to 7.9 million tons from 11.1 million tons in 2021. Also, in the 27 EU member states plus Great Britain it will drop to 139.8 million tons in 2022, from 143.2 million tons in 2021.

For France, the biggest wheat producer in EU, the 2022 crop will drop to 34.5 million tons from 35.3 millions in 2021, while in Germany, the second largest European producer, the soft wheat crop will grow from 21.4 to 22.1 million tons.

For barley, the 2022 yield obtained in EU and Great Britain will drop slightly to 59 million tons from 59.4 million tons this year.

On the other hand, corn crops will grow from 66.3 million tons in 2021 to 66.4 million tons in 2022, Cocereal expecting a better yield in Hungary to compensate for a slight reduction in Poland, Germany, France and Romania.

Cocereal expects in 2022 a yield of 20 million tons of rape in EU and Great Britain, on the rise from 18.5 million tons in 2021. This is due mainly to the increase of planted areas in Germany, France, Great Britain, Romania and Bulgaria. In these conditions, the rape yield will grow in France from 3.3 to 3.7 million tons, in Germany from 3.5 to 3.6 million tons, in Great Britain from 1.1 to 1.6 million tons.
