ME : Gas consumption dropped by 15-20% since the beginning of the year

Gas consumption dropped by 15-20% over the first two months of the year, as the big users stopped their production, the state secretary in the ministry of economy (ME) Tudor Serban said. “ We handled easily the gas crisis. We have a drop in January and February by 15-20% as the big industry was in a process of reevaluation. But this situation will come back to normal. They reduced their activity metallurgy, siderurgy, even cement” Tudor Serban said. At the same time, he said that, in some months, the price of imported gas will drop considerably.

« The price of imported gas drops continually. Over nine months, the price of imported gas could drop by 30% compared to the present price, of almost 500 dollarsthousand cubic metres. In October, it is possible that the price of gas in domestic production be equal to the imported one” the state secretary said. According to Serban, at present, the price of gas in domestic production is over 250 dollarthousand cubic metres of gas.

At the same time, the electricity consumption dropped over the first two months of 2009 by 9.6% due to the increased number of industrial users who closed down their production capacities, as the new general manager of Transelectrica Adrian Baicusi announced on Monday.
