Natural gas prices in Romania, up 86.71pct in 2021
Natural gas, edible oil, cornmeal, flour, potatoes, water, sewerage and sanitation services, as well as postal services reported the highest price increases in Romania in 2021, according to data published on Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
Thus, between May 2021 and May 2022, natural gas prices surged by 86.71%, while potato prices rose by 50.93% and edible oil prices jumped 44.14%.
According to INS, in addition to the prices for potatoes and edible oil, significant increases were also recorded for cornmeal (+ 31.55%), flour (+ 30.13%) and eggs (+ 16.62% ). At the same time, potato prices increased by 18.91% and edible oil prices by 6.03%, both on a monthly basis.
On the other hand, there are products that became cheaper on a monthly basis, such as eggs, which prices declined 1.55%.
In terms of non-food goods in 2021, in addition to natural gas, there were large increases in prices for fuels (+38.48%), heat (+ 22.98%) and electricity (+18, 46%).
At the same time, natural gas prices rose by 0.78% in May 2022, and electricity prices fell by 0.30%, both on a monthly basis.
The highest annual increases in service fees were reported for air transport (+ 20.28%), postal services (+ 16.54%), and water, sewerage and sanitation (18.67%). Compared with the previous month, air transport service fees rose by 3.03%, while fees for other services fell by 0.09%.
The annual inflation rate rose to 14.5% in May 2022, from 13.76% in April, given that in 2021 food prices rose by 14.25%, prices for non-food goods by 17.18%, and service fees by 7.47%, according to the data published on Friday by INS.
