Agriculture: Hot weather extends drought for wheat and corn
The moderate and high drought for autumn wheat and corn is growing, acording to forecasts issued by the National Weather Administration for July 2024.
For autumn wheat cultures, the humidity content for 0-10 cm soil profiles will be low (moderate pedological drought) and very low ( extreme soil dorught) in Maramures, Crisana, Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobrogea , on extensive areas in Moldova, Transylvania and Banat. Soil water reserves will have acceotable values in north-eastern Transylvania, in western Nildova and north-eastern Banat.
In the case of corn there will be humidity deficits, pedological drought being moderate, high and extreme in Maramures, Oltenia and Muntenia, most of Moldova, Dobrogea and Crisana, locally in the centre, suth and east of Transylvania, north and west Banat. The degree of water supply in the soil will have satisfying limits on extensive areas in Transylvania, locally in the west, centre , east and north western Moldovam isolated in north-eastern Banta, south-eastern Crisana and Dobrogea, according to weather reports.
Autumn wheat crops will reach maturity (60-100%) in most farming areas. Late cereals in the north and centre of the country will reach 10-100% maturity. Harvesting can be completed for barley.
Rape will be in the stage of growth (75-100%) and full maturity (40-100%).
According to sowing dates and climate conditions, will grow and flourish (10-100%), the vegetation state being average and good, or average and low for late crops or land affected by pedlodical drought.
Corn will develop leaves on extensive farming areas, while very early and early hybrids will continue to grow (10-60%).
In the main culture areas, sugar beet will record growing stages for leaves (30-100%), while potatoes will develop in stateges between 30 and 100%.
Fruit trees will register fruit growth and ripening, while species reaching maturity will be harvested.
Vineyards will develop throughout the country for most culture areas.
